Last week, Precise Biometrics, in partnership with HandID, attended ISC West in Las Vegas. We showcased our YOUNiQ Access solution along with our Biometric Technologies such as Face detection and, for the first time, our new Palm modality.
ISC West is one of the largest security events in North America and was attended by our colleagues Mark Cornett, Joel Marks, Patrick Conley as well as our CEO Joakim Nydemark.
We have spoken to Mark, Joel, and Patrick for their expert insights from the event.
How would you sum up this year’s ISC West?
Mark: Conference attendance appeared to be on par with, if not greater than, what we saw in 2023. However, our booth traffic was much greater than in recent years and we left the conference very satisfied.
Joel: ISC West 2024 was an extravaganza, bringing together thought leaders and revolutionary products from many different areas in the security market.
Patrick: ISC West was a tremendous opportunity for us to showcase our latest innovations, particularly our Palm demo. It was a fantastic platform to connect with industry leaders and demonstrate the potential of our solutions in enhancing security measures.
This was the first time we showcased our Palm demo at ISC (or any other event). How was it received?
Mark: As expected, attendees and technology partners we spoke with found palm to be an excellent complement to our existing facial recognition modality, especially for use cases requiring users to show intent, or where heightened privacy restrictions existed.
Joel: Everyone who saw the YOUNiQ Palm solution in action was very intrigued. Most people were simply not aware that this technology existed. Those who were familiar with Palm Vein technology, thought it was only for payment systems (such as Amazon One), and did not know that selfie enrollment was possible.
Patrick: Yes! The reception to our Palm demo at ISC West was overwhelmingly positive. Attendees were impressed by the accuracy and efficiency of our palm recognition technology, recognizing its potential to revolutionize access control systems.
How is our Palm solution suitable for the US market?
Joel: Our palm solution fills a void in the US market for biometrics for access control. Face as a modality comes with privacy concerns among some customers, while fingerprint modality comes with a lingering hygiene concern after Covid. Palm takes the best of both. It is private, contactless, and intentional.
Mark: I believe it fills a gap among biometric credentials for use cases mentioned above, for which limited options exist. Moreover, it seems we are at an inflection point regarding the adoption of palm for access control.
Did you spot any other key trends at the event?
Patrick: One key trend that stood out at ISC West was the increasing focus on biometric authentication technologies. From facial recognition to palm recognition, there's a growing demand for innovative solutions that offer heightened security and convenience.
Mark: The trend toward cloud-based access control solutions continues and is likely accelerating.
What sorts of challenges are organizations facing today that makes them interested in YOUNiQ Access?
Mark: The ever-increasing need for greater security, both physical and logical, demands greater adoption of multifactor authentication (MFA), with biometrics being the most logical and effective way to implement MFA solutions.
Patrick: Organizations today are grappling with the need to balance security with convenience. YOUNiQ Access address this challenge by offering robust yet user-friendly solutions for access management and visitor management, streamlining processes while maintaining high levels of security.
Joel: There is a rising demand for seemless user experience without sacrificing security. We are well positioned to offer users maximum convenience as well as enhanced security.
Are you planning to be at more shows in the near future? Where can people come and meet you?
Joel: Yes! In the coming weeks we can meet at Security Canada in Montreal (April 24) as well as the (IAHSS) in Orlando, FL on April 29-30. And many more as the year goes on!
